SAWS has drought-recovery toolkit ready
SAN ANTONIO -- It's a series ofnew rebates that San Antonio Water System is offering. These rebatescan be printed out from the SAWS Web site, but there are some thingsyou need to do before you go to work resurrecting your yard.
Firstof all do an honest assessment of your yard. San Antonio Water Systemsays before you start working, look at what happened to your yard.
Lookat what died and what lived. What was high maintenance or which part ofyour yard has always struggled or looks barren. SAWS has come up with atoolkit of rebates that encourage homeowners to do something different. Like instead of grass that's died, putting down "hardscape."
Karen Guz with SAWS told us, "These bricks that are set down, that are attractive and permanent, are an example set in sand."
Watercan still flow through it too. Converting a minimum 500 square feet tohardscape equals a rebate up to $150. Decking also qualifies for therebate. Another is newly mulched landscape beds. Three cubic yards ofmulch either in bulk or bags qualifies for a rebate up to $50.
It would make a great place for new blooming plants. But make sure you do one thing before you get going -- take a before-picture and take an after-picture for SAWS so it can see what it is that you did.
Andit needs to be new, not something you did last year or it won'tqualify. These are changes that could keep your yard from looking likethe moon next summer.
