I have a friend that has been going through some really rough times. For months now it seems that every time I speak with her she has a negative outlook on life. Unfortunately she was just recently hit with the worst news of all; she was going to have to sell her dream home.

Picking herself up, gaining enough strength and what little money she had, she got to work on fixing up her house for the next homeowner. Where she fell short was on the landscaping. So she called me up and asked if I could work my magic knowing my experience in the landscaping industry.

So I pulled together a little money, some extra plants that I had, and brought the crew over to her house. When we showed up we knew instantly that she was happy and I saw a smile that I had not seen in quit some time. So we got to work and in just one day transformed her yard into something that the new homeowners would love.

You should have seen the look on her face when she saw her new yard. She was so happy. I took her around the yard and showed her how to water her plants and the basic care after we left. I told her that she was the only one that was going to keep these plants alive and she assured us that she would take care of them. I was really happy we could help her out and it meant a lot to me.

Well it wasn’t even a week and she gave me a call. What was strange was I was actually having a rough day because I had received some unwanted news. I asked her how things were going and she said, “pretty good.” She then said, “I just wanted to tell you that I appreciate all you did for me and helping with the yard.” “It is the highlight of my day to go out and water these plants and knowing that I am the one person is keeping them alive.” She thanked me again and told me we would talk soon.

I have to say that I hung up the phone as the tears rolled down my face as they are right now when I tell you this story.

I guess the thing I want people to get from this story is that we all go through tough times, whether it’s the housing market, the economy, or all the other troubles today. If a friend reaches out to you in their darkest time, it may be your help that is the one thing that brings their spirits up.

So, send a live plant to a friend in need. They can take care of it each day and watch it grow.
